Cowbridge Commemorative Quilt

Early in 2017 a small group of sewing enthusiasts gathered to discuss the potential for developing a large quilt to commemorate the men from Cowbridge, Llanblethian and Aberthin who have died in conflict over the past 100 years.

Individuals coordinating the project are:

– Liz Price
– Monica Dennis
– Isobelle Davis
– Corinne Roberts
– Chris Dobson

Following in depth discussion and considerable information gathering a plan was put in place and a design drafted

Each soldiers name will be hand embroidered onto a panel of fabric. These panels will then be sewn together and will form the main body of the quilt.

The plan is to have the quilt completed and displayed in Ty Hafan Emporium shop window around the 2018 Cowbridge Remembrance day commemorations.

We have been working closely with the Cowbridge Branch of the British Legion and the History room in the Old Hall to ensure that the information to be included on the quilt is accurate.

Funding has been given by the following organisations:

– Cowbridge Branch of the British Legion
– Cowbridge with Llanblethian Town Council
– Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Lions
– Cowbridge Probus

And we are also grateful of the support given by:

– Julie Williams, Ty Hafan Emporium, Cowbridge
– Betty Alden, Cowbridge History room

The project will get underway in October (13th and 26th) in the Lesser Hall, Cowbridge Town Hall where we will be inviting members of the community to help us sew panels for the quilt. If you would like more information or would like to be involved please email mdennis.wales@gmail.com

We have spent the last few months refining the design and gathering the resources that we need to make the quult and finally we are getting underway. We have printed the names of the soldiers on to the fabric and backed them with fusible interfacing ready for stitching at our first workshop in October.
