Yesterday, I came across a fascinating button project in the Arts Centre at Aberystwyth University. It began when writer and curator Jo Dahn sent a message to ceramic practitioners asking them to make a button and post it to her. Buttons could be any size, simple or complicated but each had to have two holes or a closed loop on the reverse – ‘so that it could function as buttons generally do’
The exhibition showed all the buttons that have arrived so far. The majority are from Britain but some have arrived from Australia, Brazil, Mexico, France, Spain, USA, Finland, Germany, Romania and Chima. There is mo selection process – everything is shown and the exhibition includes buttons made ny children as well as well known ceramicists. Buttons continue to arrive and are included wherever possible.
