It is a long time since I last visited Amsterdam so it was lovely to return last weekend for an action packed weekend with my daughter.
We covered much of the city including the Van Gogh Museum, a theatre production about Anne Frank and her family, which was excellent and a wander round Vondelpark.
As my daughter is a cheese fanatic we couldn’t avoid trying out lots of cheeses! This is the Cheese Museum which is not far from Anne Franks house
And, as my focus is fabrics we couldn’t miss out on them. At the Albert Cuyp market where there are loads with market stalls with huge shops behind them!
But the best find of the weekend was when we ventured out to local villages. In a lovely little fishing village called Marken we visited the museum where I found a basket full of vintage ribbons, once used to embellish the villagers traditional costume. Needless to say I came away with a bag full!
And, as if this wasn’t enough Marken has a fabric shop – very small but perfectly formed with an amazing selection of Dutch fabrics and trimmings.
In another little village called Broek in Waterland I picked up some vintage linen and lace doilies.
Quirky but nice touches were the houseboat on the canal that we stayed in – I would certainly recommend it.
And the restaurant on what looked like an oil rig but was actually previously a radio station. Fabulous food and amazing views over the city.
Lots more to see and do – will have to engineer another trip soon!
