In March we ventured to the Indian Himalayas to trek the hills and valleys. It was the most amazing experience where we enjoyed the hospitality of the local communities.
What was very special was seeing how the communities are being helped to sustain their villages by various means. In Supi valley we came across an NGO project where the local women were being taight to sew to bring in extra earnings. They could drop in any time of the day to fit around their daily routine to make goods for sale. What was most interesting was that they were making little fabric bags similar to the ones that we made at a recent workshop.
In Karmi vilage lwe came across women weaving shawls and rugs on traditional looms
At the conclusion of our trip we dropped into a women’s cooperative where the women were making shawls, socks, gloves and hats from various yarns – hemp, alpaca, lambs wool, cashmere. So creative with such primitive equipment!
A wonderful, memorable trip which left us at peace ith the world – looking forwad to our next trip already.
